During childbirth classes or prenatals, give parents homework: Have them ask their mothers about their own births. How did their mother know they were in labor? Did they use medications? What was their length of labor? Did they breastfeed? (and so on). This can bring up important issues and help parents get in touch with their own birth feelings and fears.
