Postpartum Doula Training Workshop Information

The purpose of this workshop is to provide participants with a working knowledge necessary to provide doula support to new families after the birth of a new baby.

Course Objectives:

bulletDefine postpartum and the traditional care of the new mother
bulletList the basic needs of the new mother
bulletList comfort measures for the mother after a vaginal and cesarean birth
bulletDemonstrate basic hand, foot and back massage
bulletDescribe the six infant states
bulletDescribe the normal course of breastfeeding in the first week after birth
bulletList various ways to support the new mother who is experiencing difficulty breastfeeding
bulletList ways to support the family’s adjustment during the postpartum period
bulletDemonstrate techniques for all aspects of baby care
bulletDemonstrate several infant massage strokes
bulletDefine postpartum depression and list ways to support the new mother who is experiencing PPD
bulletList appropriate ways to support a bereaved family

Course Schedule:

bulletThursday 6 - 9 pm
bulletFriday 9 am - 5 pm, includes lunch
bulletSaturday 9 am - 5 pm, includes lunch
