Postpartum Doula Training Workshop Information

The purpose of this workshop is to provide participants with a working knowledge necessary to provide doula support to new families after the birth of a new baby.

Course Objectives:

	Define postpartum and the traditional care of the new mother
	List the basic needs of the new mother
	List comfort measures for the mother after a vaginal and cesarean birth
	Demonstrate basic hand, foot and back massage
	Describe the six infant states
	Describe the normal course of breastfeeding in the first week after birth
	List various ways to support the new mother who is experiencing difficulty breastfeeding
	List ways to support the family’s adjustment during the postpartum period
	Demonstrate techniques for all aspects of baby care
	Demonstrate several infant massage strokes
	Define postpartum depression and list ways to support the new mother who is experiencing PPD
	List appropriate ways to support a bereaved family

Course Schedule:

	Thursday 6 - 9 pm
	Friday 9 am - 5 pm, includes lunch
	Saturday 9 am - 5 pm, includes lunch

Fees are $350.00 per participant. $25 early bird discount if registered at least one month prior to workshop date.
