When I first heard of Labour-ade I wasn't sure what the effectiveness it would have on a labouring mother (and fatigued father). I took it on faith to a few births and I am completely amazed at the rejuvenating effects it has! The electrolyte balance combined with natural energy (honey), natural fluids (lemon and water) and calcium and magnesium which are essential in effective muscle contraction is an excellent, natural way to boost energy levels! I have included two recipes as well as off-the-shelf alternatives.

Labourade

In blender mix

bullet

1/3 cup fresh lemon juice

bullet

1/3 cup honey (to taste)

bullet

1/4 tsp salt

bullet

2 calcium/magnesium tablets, crushed

bullet

Water to make 4 cups

Mix well and freeze.

Pucker-ade

Mix together in saucepan

3 cups water

bullet

1/2 cup honey

Heat to dissolve honey. Pour into blender and add

1 cup lemon juice (5 lemons)

bullet

3 calcium/magnesium tablets, crushed

bullet

1/4 tsp salt

Mix well and freeze.

In order of effectiveness

Pedialite® is a good electrolyte balance, but be sure you like the taste!

I have found a lot of clients really like Mannatech Em-Pact™ Pre-Workout Sports Drink (no I do not distribute this product).

bullet

Any sport drink currently available on the market, but watch for high sugar levels and preservatives.
