The consensus on insurance for doulas is still out among most doulas. The reasoning for doula insurance is protection in case of possible lawsuits as well as any incidents of harm caused either on the doula or clients property. This could include something as big a bad outcome in which you are listed with everyone else at the birth in the lawsuit and as small as your breaking a vase at a clients home. Yet insurance for lawsuit liability can be reasoned against in that a doula cannot make decisions for her client as would a midwife or doctor. A doula can certainly give information, but making decisions is out of a doulas scope of practice. In light of this, the decision is yours and below are companies which insure both birth and postpartum doulas.
