Sleeping at Births

Although doulas rarely sleep at births, when births get long a doula needs to keep her energy up to care for the labouring mother. One way to do this if mom is able to sleep is to purchase one of the horseshoe-shaped neck pillows used to sleep while traveling. Thus you can doze comfortably in many positions, even sitting straight up. Just position the rounded side to where your head would normally "lol" and it works great. There are two types available, an inflatable one and a stuffed one. The stuffed one tends to be more comfortable because if you perspire the inflatable one will feel clammy against your skin.
