Childbirth Educator Training Workshop Information

The purpose of this workshop is to provide participants with the knowledge necessary to provide pregnant parents a comprehensive education on prenatal, birth and postpartum options.

Course Objectives:

bulletExplain the history, purpose and role of the childbirth educator.
bulletExamine adult learning principles, group dynamics and teaching strategies.
bulletDiscuss prenatal screening, nutritional needs and exercise through the prenatal period.
bulletIdentify the fundamentals of the labor process in order to choose effective teaching strategies.
bulletDescribe various comfort measures and their use.
bulletExamine sensitive subject areas and the risk-benefit approach to education.
bulletDescribe the risk/benefits of medications and interventions by examining the domino effect.
bulletExplain the emotional and physical aspects of cesarean births and VBACs (Vaginal Birth After Cesarean).
bulletDescribe the newborn characteristics, postpartum care, and the benefits of breastfeeding.
bulletDiscuss the importance of curriculum flow and examining content to meet the learners’ needs.

bulletFriday 9 am - 5 pm, includes lunch
bulletSaturday 9 am - 5 pm, includes lunch
