Childbirth Doula Training Workshop Information

The purpose of this workshop is to provide participants with a working knowledge necessary to provide informational, physical and emotional support to pregnant and birthing mothers, and their partners, before during and after the birth of their baby.

Course Objectives:

bulletDefine the role of the childbirth doula during pregnancy, birth and immediate postpartum period.
bulletExplain the limitations of practice for a childbirth doula.
bulletIdentify ways in which the doula can have a positive impact on the woman’s satisfaction with her birth, and birth outcomes.
bulletUnderstand the purpose and goals of GBI and explain the general requirements for certification.
bulletOutline the purpose of prenatal contact between doula and client
bulletDescribe and demonstrate massage, comfort measures and positions for labour and birth.
bulletIdentify various physical and emotional responses to labour and describe ways in which doulas can provide emotional support.
bulletDescribe ways in which a doula can provide support to the woman and her partner in preparation and during a caesarean birth.
bulletList behaviours and reflexes of the newborn and describe APGAR scoring.
bulletIdentify factors in birth that may effect breastfeeding and demonstrate initial breastfeeding principles.
